Have you heard of the International Desertif’actions Summit?

Launched in 2006 by the Centre d’Actions et de Réalisations Internationales (CARI – France) and its partners, the international multi-stakeholder summit Désertif’actions is intended to provide a forum for inclusive dialogue on the issue of land and the development of drylands, with the aim of preparing elements of influence ahead of the UNCCD COPs.

The 2026 event will be held in Djerba (Tunisia) from 25 to 28 March 2026, and will be co-organised by CARI, UNCCD, OSS, ACDD (Association Citoyenneté et Développement Durable) and WWF North Africa, ahead of COP 17 in Mongolia in 2026. The main theme of this year’s event is territorial resilience in the face of crises, particularly drought.

Don’t hesitate to consult the D’A 26 information note to find out more.

You can contribute to the preparatory phase of D’A 26 by organising a preparatory workshop (between 20 March and 30 September 2025)!

As with the 2019 and 2022 editions, a preparatory process will be launched between March and September 2025, with the aim of obtaining recommendations from countries through the voluntary organisation of “consultation workshops”.

These workshops could focus on all or some of the 4 sub-themes identified, and the reports will enable us to put together solid, concerted elements to feed the advocacy that will be taken to COP 17.

  1. Transformation of sedentary farming and/or livestock systems How can we support farms and livestock farms in their transition to greater resilience in the face of drought?
  2. Support for mobile production systems (focus on pastoralism): How can we preserve and facilitate the development of systems based on mobility strategies that are relevant in the face of drought, in an increasingly constrained context?
  3. Regional management of water resources : How can the different uses of water resources be reconciled in order to anticipate and manage competition for resources in drought situations, while limiting the risk of conflict?
  4. Territory management : How can the role of local authorities be facilitated so that they can anticipate and sustainably manage their territory in anticipation of drought crises?
