The Desertification Working Group (GTD) organized and led a national preparatory workshop (France) to gather the specific concerns of civil society actors on issues surrounding the resilience of territories in the face of drought.
This workshop focused on the sub-theme of the transformation of sedentary agricultural and/or livestock systems, with the aim of collectively identifying ways to support farms and livestock operations in their transition to greater resilience to droughts.
Various development actors (NGOs, associations, scientists) involved in actions related to sustainable land and natural resource management in dry areas of Africa came together and were able to share their views and experiences in the field through several co-construction exercises.
After a collective reflection on the concept of resilience and the chosen conceptual framework, participants worked in groups to reflect on the actions implemented to help farms become more resilient to droughts, the obstacles encountered, and the levers used to overcome them. Finally, participants had to identify possible advocacy avenues based on the obstacles and levers identified in supporting farms to become more resilient to droughts.
Following this workshop, recommendations will be extracted and further developed in a comprehensive report summarizing the results of the other preparatory country workshops, and during thematic webinars, to establish a common advocacy position of civil society organizations on the resilience of territories to crises caused by droughts, which will be presented at the UNCCD COP17 in August 2026 in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia).
*Report to follow on the national preparatory workshop in France for Désertif’actions 2026.
