Democratic Republic of Congo: National workshop on sustainable water management in the Congo Basin on 19 August

CENADEP is organising a preparatory workshop on “Sustainable water management in the Congo Basin, a factor in combating drought in Sub-Saharan Africa” on Tuesday 19 August in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

This workshop, organised to contribute to the equitable and sustainable governance of the waters of the Congo Basin with a view to preventing and combating desertification, is expected to bring together around thirty people.

This one-day workshop will take a multi-stakeholder, participatory approach based on local experience: introductory lectures, presentations by experts, working groups following the thematic axes, testimonies from the field (experience sharing), collective drafting of recommendations.

The Centre National d’Appui au Développement et à la Participation Populaire (CENADEP) is a structure that works to promote participatory development and build democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Workshop programme

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Governance of water resources
  • Drought, desertification and agriculture: mapping risk areas.
  • Transaqua project – Between risks and alternatives
  • Climate migration and pressure on resources
  • How to reconcile the different uses of water resources and agro-ecology with a view to anticipating and managing drought situations while limiting the risk of conflict.
