SPONG, APIL, CNABIO and Tree Aid are organising a preparatory workshop for Désertif’actions 2026 on Thursday 19 June from 9am to 5pm and Friday 20 June from 8.30am to 12pm at the SPONG conference room in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The workshop will cover the following topics
- Supporting local authorities in managing their territory in anticipation of drought risks,
- Agroecological transformation of farming systems to improve drought resilience.

SPONG is a national platform that brings together more than 200 national and international NGOs and development associations, foundations, research and training centres, youth movements and thematic networks.
The NGO APIL is a development organisation that focuses primarily on training farmers to provide small family farms with technical and organisational innovations that guarantee a sustainable improvement in their living conditions.
CNABio is a platform in Burkina Faso that brings together around a hundred players, all committed to promoting agro-ecology and organic farming. CNABio is behind the first organic certification label in Burkina Faso.
Tree Aid is an international NGO working with people in arid areas of Africa to combat poverty and the effects of the climate crisis by planting trees, improving incomes and restoring and protecting land.
This workshop is being organised to facilitate consultation between civil society organisations, local authorities and public and private institutions in Burkina Faso on specific issues, and to develop collaborative advocacy aimed at national and international decision-makers on the following themes:
- Supporting local authorities in managing their territory in anticipation of drought risks;
- And agro-ecological transformation of farming systems to improve drought resilience.
The two-day workshop programme will be structured around thematic presentations, working groups (sub-group discussions on existing actions, challenges and solutions) and recommendations and advocacy messages.
